Cats Rule (Dogs Drool)

I’ve figured it out: Cats invented the internet so that they could spread confirmation of their superiority. [Insert today’s LOLcat or HEROcat video here.]

Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot Pussy Riot

There’s a lot of amazing stuff coming out of Pussy Riot’s invasion of New York — it’s hard to know where to begin. They regret nothing and had to leave to get working on more protests in this NPR interview. They were giggly and charming with Stephen Colbert. They looked glamorous and intransigent in their crucifix smocks at the Amnesty International concert. And Masha and Nadya were just fucking right on in this New York Times interview.  Meanwhile they’ve stoked the boards of protest at the Olympics already. This homage of Bob Costas saying their name, saying their name, over and over went viral.

Pussy Riot’s Amazing New Song and Video

The only thing better than this great Jezebel post about Pussy Riot is the blog’s interview with Pussy Riot’s Katia. The only thing better than that interview is Pussy Riot’s new video. The only thing better than that video is the song itself, entitled, “Fucking Sexist, Leave the Hole Alone.” Nuff said.

Lita’s Mother’s Day Video

Photo: Mark Weiss

Lita Ford premiered a video for her song “Mother” off Living Like a Runaway at USA Today today. Edgeplay director Victory Tischler-Blue, aka ex Runaways bassist Vicki Blue, shot the dramatic footage of the guitarist in the desert. In an accompanying interview, the Runaways shredder talks about “parental alienation,” a subject she knows well, as she is estranged from her two sons. It’s no Hallmark card for Mother’s Day, but it’s a real issue that many women are living. Frustrating as my child can be, I also can’t imagine not being able to see him every day, let alone at all. It’s a heartbreaking situation for the tatted-up ax-slinger who was always the tuffest girl in the band. Happy Mother’s Day, Lita.

The Gospel According to Erykah Badu

I heart Erykah Badu. She takes her longtime interest in disrobing (I remember her slowly revealing her scalp in one Miami concert) to the extreme in her new video. I interviewed her a couple years ago for Interview; she’s such a smart eccentric.
