Cherie Sings Nancy

Cherie Currie sings the Nancy Sinatra part in a cover of the Lee Hazlewood classic “Some Velvet Morning” posted by Glenn Danzig. It’s a slow, dark dirge — very Leonard Cohen/Nick Cave/Joy Division. The erstwhile Runaways singer sounds great, singing full-throated with a lot of vibrato, providing a welcome bit of light into the overwrought gloom even while playing the heavy-metal femme fatale: “Danger is my name.” Currie’s opening for Danzig at the Gibson Amphitheatre in LA August 30. It’s good to actually hear some of her music.
